Peter started training in Kyokushin Karate in the late 1980's reaching 8th Kyu in 1987. After a while he was introduced to some people that did Ashihara Karate, a style that he had never heard of. He was told a great deal about the style and was invited to train with them where after he decided to stay.
The training was just as good if not better than Kyokushin, and he was well on his way. He was lucky enough to train with a lot of Ashihara Black Belts from other Dojo graded by Sensei Paul Mancarellar (4th Dan). In December 1993, he was graded to 1st Dan by Sensei Sean Braniff. Two years of hard training later, just as he was ready to go for his 2nd Dan, work commitments stopped him from training for 5 years.
When he returned to training full time it was at another Dojo, with Sensei Craig Leeson (4th Dan). In December 2000, he was graded to 2nd Dan by Sensei Craig. At the end of 2001 Sensei Craig Leeson's Ashihara Dojo closed and he started at the Whittington Dojo with Sensei Mark Cousins.
As one of the senior black belts in the Dojo, he helps out in the every day training and the grading of students and it gives him great satisfaction to see all the students progress through their belts. The students are also encouraged to enter tournaments through out the year, to fine tune their skills and get used to fighting other people.
He feels that Ashihara karate offers a great deal that help in every day real life, in and outside the Dojo. He is married and has two young girls who will be starting karate when a bit older. He enjoys all aspects of karate and have met a lot of people and made a lot of friends, from within the Dojo and other styles.
In 2004, we teamed up with Kaicho Hoosain Narker, which has been a great move. We have the same style but now have a lot more avenues to go down. To me Kaicho Narker has fine tuned what we have been doing in the past . It shows me that there is always room for improvement .
